Requirements

  • Current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner required in the state in which you work or reside or if declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as your primary state of residency, meet the licensure requirements in your home state; or for Non-National License Compact states.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum of a baccalaureate nursing degree and active RN license.
  • Knowledge of whole-person health principles and articulation of the connection between the mind, body, and spirit.
  • Ability to develop relationships in multicultural and multi-religious settings.
  • Demonstrates spiritual maturity.
  • Ability to motivate and engage teammates.
  • Possesses understanding of motivational interviewing regarding community health education and sustainable behavior change.
  • Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) status meeting hospital’s current auto insurance carrier’s insurability criteria.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement health ministry programs in local faith communities and/or non-profit faith-based organizations.
  • Recruits and on-boards Nonpaid Faith Community Nurses (NFCN) in strategic communities.
  • Provides clinical supervision and continuing education for Nonpaid Faith Community Nurses.
  • Serves as a local expert in health ministry and advocating priorities to faith communities and community partners.
  • Collaborates with local health and community leaders in identifying and implementing priority initiatives.
  • Integrates department’s services with overall strategic priorities.
  • Collaborates with other nurse leaders to develop/maintain an environment that supports learning and professional development.
  • Represents Faith and Health Partnerships in respective communities served, participating in community health assessment and action plans.
  • Participates in departmental and corporate level performance improvement initiatives and research, assessing and improving value added services.
  • Leads community health initiatives in the faith community setting, such as Mental Health First Aid, Companionship, QPR Suicide Prevention, and Healthy exercise and nutrition.
  • Establishes relationships with existing and potential faith communities, identifying opportunities for presenting the NFCN model for partnership.
  • Implements growth and sustainability strategies within community.
  • Mentors Faith Community Nurses in establishing health ministry programs.
  • Provides NFCNs emotional, spiritual, and professional support as ministries are developed in the communities.
  • Teaches modules in the Foundations of Faith Community Nursing course.
  • Ensures that NFCNs document their activities through narrative, monthly activity reports and consistent charting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Typically requires Five years of clinical experience required with 2-3 years in faith community nursing preferred.
  • Experience in Community Health, Faith Community Nursing, or health ministry areas of practice preferred.
  • Familiar with major trends of wholistic health care and able to articulate the concept of the interrelationship of physical, emotional, and spiritual health effectively.
  • Knowledge of adult education principles; teaching experience preferred.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Products, Zoom, and EMR preferred.
