Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Health Science or related field
- Skills, knowledge, abilities typically gained through less than 2 years of relevant experience in conducting graded exercise testing, knowledge of cardiovascular physiology, risk factor identification/modification; basic electrocardiogram (EKG) knowledge or completion of an internship in Cardiac Rehab
- CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA American Heart Association Preventive Cardiology and Rehab, Cardiovascular Imaging, Congenital Heart Center, and Implantable Cardiac Device Clinic 90 Days Or CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) – ARC American Red Cross Preventive Cardiology and Rehab, Cardiovascular Imaging, Congenital Heart Center and Implantable Cardiac Device Clinic 90 Days
- CRT-Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – AHA American Heart Association WITHIN 90 DAYS Preventive Cardiology and Rehab, Cardiovascular Imaging and Implantable Cardiac Device Clinic; WITHIN 1 Year Congenital Heart Center 90 Days
- CRT-Pediatric Adv Life Support (PALS) – AHA American Heart Association Congenital Heart Center 1 Year
- CRT-Clinical Exercise Physiologist, Certified (CEP) – ACSM American College of Sports Medicine Preventive Cardiology and Rehab, Cardiovascular Imaging, Implantable Cardiac Device Clinic and Congenital Heart Center 180 Days
Responsibilities
- Plans, develops and conducts graded exercise testing
- Monitors patient’s activity, physiological response, and adherence to the exercise sessions
- Provides specific exercise prescription to individuals based on age, culture and orthopedic considerations
- Analyzes external monitor findings utilizing appropriate technology and processes report according to protocol; assists in management of patients with implantable devices, including but not limited to triage, entering and tracking data, reviewing remotes, performing in-clinic interrogations, and scheduling patients as needed
- Provides patient education talking points and/or individual and group counseling and teaching regarding principles of a healthy lifestyle; may create and update educational materials
- Assists with new employee orientation within department
- Communicates and collaborates with other members of the health care team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services
- Participates in research projects and on committees/task forces as member, consultant and/or chair
- May flex to the medical program or surgical program as needed
