Requirements
- BS in Mechanical, Marine, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering degree (or equivalent experience) and 1-3+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering concepts such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, material science, and mechanics of materials.
- Ability to apply engineering principles to analyze and solve mechanical problems, with a keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD software, with the ability to draft detailed multi-view drawings of systems, machinery spaces, assemblies, and products.
- Ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams, sharing knowledge and collaborating to achieve engineering objectives while learning from others.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to prepare technical reports, collaborate with team members, and present engineering solutions clearly.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level clearance.
Responsibilities
- Design and review marine auxiliary and piping systems, analyze preliminary and functional design documentation, and create system specifications for naval and commercial vessels.
- Review and analyze mechanical, electrical propulsion, and auxiliary/piping systems. Develop technical data packages to support vessel design, construction, and maintenance.
- Provide comprehensive support in areas such as specification writing, system design, system modeling, mechanical calculations, outfitting design, marine drawings, record drawing updates, ship checks, and technical document preparation, all aligned with drawing standards and marine design best practices.
- Write test procedures, compile and evaluate design and test data, and prepare technical specifications to ensure systems meet required performance and safety standards.
- Plan, design, develop, modify, and evaluate auxiliary systems, mechanical and electro-mechanical components, controls, engines, machines, and thermal hydraulic systems for naval vessels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Shipboard and/or shipyard experience
- Experience with US Navy and/or US commercial ship design standards.
- Experience with Military Sealift Command (MSC) marine engineering practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with industry-standard engineering design and modeling software, including AutoCAD, PIPE-FLO, ShipConstructor, NAVISWORKS, or similar tools for system design and analysis.
