Requirements
- Requires an accredited degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science.
- Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
- Knowledge of a machining and related processes and methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
- Foundational knowledge of machining processes, including programming and designing machine tools, tooling, and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on process improvement and operational efficiency.
- Knowledge of effective advisory methods and ability to provide valued information and advice to clients regarding products, technologies, services and solutions for a specific technology domain.
- Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.
- Knowledge of methodologies, tools and techniques of product development; ability to design, build and manage manufacturing of new products.
- Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing or product development environment.
- Knowledge of major products and services and product and service groups; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations.
Responsibilities
- Leading technical design, development, and testing for all machining technologies in the Caterpillar enterprise as well as maintaining strong industry and academic connections to understand advancements and trends in machining technology.
- Evaluating the quality of products and providing advice in the refinement of manufacturing engineering systems and processes.
- Resolving or coordinating the resolution of complex technical issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in additional languages, particularly Mandarin/Chinese or Spanish
- Advanced degrees in engineering (M.S. or Ph.D.)
- Experience across multiple business units or exposure to cross-functional environments
