Requirements

  • Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience in the utility industry.
  • A Master’s degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Electrical Engineering degree.

Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of well-defined problems in area of expertise.
  • Support and coordinate DER performance testing activities at the lab. Monitoring and troubleshooting technologies.
  • Contribute to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; deals with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decisions that may affect the work of the team.
  • Conduct engineering, research and related studies of emerging technologies. Projects and assignments are clearly defined with focus on development but must be able to complete routine engineering projects with minimal oversight; competent to design, operate and maintain systems with minimum impact on existing systems.
  • Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; demonstrates proficiency in technical competencies and has ability to interpret technical information and instructions.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Supports the company’s goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
  • Report out on data collection and analysis of DER testing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering background preferred.
  • Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
  • Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
  • Familiar with ac and dc power systems
  • Safe use of voltmeters, hand tools, etc.
  • Familiar with residential wiring such as thermostats and types of heating and cooling systems
  • Comfortable in installing electrical devices while adhering to code
  • Understand concepts of power vs. energy
  • Familiarity with product testing and testing concepts
  • Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam
  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnical backgrounds.
  • Good written and oral communications skills.
  • Good computer/software skills. Example: database management, Excel, PowerBI, Rest APIs, JavaScript, Python, Amazon Web Service, HMAC (Hash based Message Authentication Code), TLS encryption (issuing certificates), setting up Linux servers,
  • Understanding of communications protocol. Example: OCPP, OpenADR, IEEE 2030.5, Modbus, MQTT, Node-RED
  • Understanding concepts of VPN, static IP address, mDNS
  • IoT skills using microcontrollers (Arduino, ESP32, Rasberry Pi)
