Requirements
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
- Experience with identification and mitigation of EH&S hazards.
- Knowledge and the application of the principals of regulatory requirements.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of EHS professionals to assure compliance with applicable federal, state, local and company EH&S requirements.
- Understand the goals and priorities for the RTX and RAY EHS organization and effectively support/lead/motivate the EH&S team to accomplish them.
- Build a high performing team, boost morale, and create a positive working environment.
- Identify pain points and barriers for team members and develop/implement the strategy to remove them.
- Partner with local functional leaders to streamline processes or resolve problems where EHS is a stakeholder or is affected.
- Recognize, evaluate, and control hazardous workplace conditions.
- Take proactive steps to ensure the safety and health of site employees and influence safe behaviors.
- Execute initiatives, programs, reports, and training across multiple EH&S disciplines, as required to achieve and maintain compliance.
- Prepare and manage documentation relating to safety and environmental policies in preparation for audits.
- Provides proper documentation in preparation for permits and liaising with governmental bodies.
- Maintains EH&S Management System Conformance.
- Achieves and maintains consistency of EH&S record keeping and documentation with organizational and regulatory policy.
- Audit and evaluate current policies, procedures, and documentation to assure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Investigate, analyze, and interpret data from injuries and near-misses ensuring corrective actions are completed on time, and all necessary documentation is in place.
- Interact with employees of all levels, promote relationships, learn the tasks employees perform and be known as a resource to the employees at the site.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of EH&S strategic initiatives that drive continuous improvement.
- Support the site’s environmental compliance programs, including, but not limited to, hazardous waste management, stormwater and ground-water protection plans, air quality permitting, wastewater, and toxic chemical reporting.
- Develop and implement sustainability practices and programs related to waste, water, and greenhouse gases in alignment with our long-term goals.
- Identify environmental risk and complete due diligence; investigate root cause for environmental incidents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience managing large teams and sites
- Previous experience partnering with functional leaders or bargaining units
- Previous experience solving problems across functions
- Strong presentation skills
- Project management and execution skills
- Previous experience working at an OSHA VPP (Voluntary Protection Program) site.
- Professional Certification in the EHS field (ASP, CSP, CIH, etc.).
- Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to effectively organize and manage multiple projects and programs in a fast-pace environment and demonstrate effective prioritization and implementation skills.
- Ability to provide clear, concise, and effective verbal communications.
