Requirements
- 3+ years of tax background in US direct and indirect tax compliance (Federal and multi-state, partnership preferred)
- Experience with sales and use tax compliance
- Public accounting experience preferred
- At least one year of independently managing changing priorities
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects
- Experience delegating and reviewing preparer’s work and providing review comments
- Experience automating manual processes to drive overall process improvement
- Proficient in Excel and have experience using Alteryx to automate manual processes
- Experience with domestic income tax matters
- Experience with sales and use tax compliance, including determining product and services taxability, analyzing purchases for exemptions, and understanding how to apply sales and use tax exemptions
Responsibilities
- Maintain timely compliance of all domestic tax related filings by collaborating with other tax team members and third-party providers to timely prepare and file Federal and state income tax returns, Federal excise tax returns, property tax returns, local business license tax returns, preparing reports and calculations for sales/excise/occupation tax compliance
- Collaborate with third-party consultants on compliance and research related items by providing necessary reports, reconciling filings to the GL and third-party reports, auditing filings, answering questions and carrying-out tasks necessary to ensure proper record keeping and compliance
- Manage sales and use tax accrual processes which includes reviewing monthly company purchases to determine the monthly tax liabilities, reviewing contracts and invoices to determine product and service taxability, applying relevant exemptions, working with internal billing departments to track sales tax exemption certificates, etc.
- Timely identify new filing obligations in the US by monitoring tax news that impact the Company’s operations in direct and indirect tax nexus
- Support the Company’s monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes by collaborating with the Accounting and Budget teams to prepare and review domestic tax related monthly and quarterly tax accruals and budget
- Support the Associate Director of Tax and other tax team members on the timely preparation and compliance of the Company’s Federal and state income tax returns
- Ensure that domestic tax liabilities are timely remitted by calculating quarterly estimated payments and nonresident withholding requirements
- Review and validate tax depreciation calculations by running fixed asset software (BNA) reports and completing book and tax reconciliations
- Meet domestic tax statutory deadlines by maintaining the domestic tax calendar
- Support the Associate Director of Tax with managing all ongoing domestic projects, including recurring domestic tax calendar items and ad hoc domestic projects
- Improve manual processes by leveraging automation tools such as Alteryx and AI
- Thoroughly document all domestic processes and decisions with policies and carryforward notes
- Monitor domestic tax news for items impacting Company’s operations
- Timely respond to domestic notices and inquiries from tax authorities by working independently or with other tax team members or third-party consultants
- Timely respond to inquiries from other business units
- Partner with the Associate Director of Tax on new domestic initiatives
- Support with Treasury responsibilities, including submitting funding requests for domestic tax liabilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Accounting (Master’s in Tax preferred) from an accredited college/university
- Preferred CPA License
- Knowledge of OneSource or GoSystem tax compliance software
- Preferred experience with BNA Fixed Asset software and Alteryx
- Experience with Alteryx or other automation tools
- Natural curiosity to streamlining, automation, process improvement
- Demonstrated behaviors in problem-solving
- Strong bias for process improvement
