Requirements

  • 15+ years of software engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering experience, with a deep focus on DevSecOps, CI/CD, deployment automation, platform engineering, and release engineering.
  • Expertise in Kubernetes, container orchestration, and GitOps workflows (ArgoCD, Helm).
  • Deep experience with high-scale CI/CD platforms, including GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of Deployment Control Gates and Policy as Code with Open Policy Agent (OPA) and Rego to enforce deployment policies.
  • Platform Engineering expertise with experience designing self-service platforms, developer portals, and infrastructure automation.
  • Proficiency in Linux system administration, networking fundamentals, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Strong understanding of observability, monitoring, and tracing for CI/CD pipelines, platform engineering solutions, and release workflows.
  • Proven track record of technical leadership, influencing company-wide decisions, and mentoring senior engineers.
  • Experience working in large-scale, distributed engineering environments with thousands of engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the strategic roadmap for GEICO’s Deployment and Release Platform and Platform Engineering, ensuring scalability, reliability, and developer efficiency.
  • Architect and optimize high-performance CI/CD frameworks and Platform Engineering solutions to support 3000+ engineers and enable self-service infrastructure.
  • Pioneer the adoption of GitOps principles using Flux, ArgoCD, and Kubernetes, enabling automated, declarative deployments.
  • Define Service to service communication patterns, and discoverability using Istio Service Mesh.
  • Design and enforce deployment control gates using Policy as Code methodologies with Open Policy Agent (OPA) and Rego, ensuring secure, compliant, and auditable deployments.
  • Lead the adoption of cloud-native deployment patterns, and containerized workflows.
  • Develop platform engineering frameworks that empower developers with self-service capabilities, reducing communication confusions and accelerating software delivery.
  • Define best practices for monitoring, logging, tracing, and release observability using tools like Prometheus, Grafana.
  • Serve as a mentor, and advocate for best practices in DevSecOps, Continuous Delivery, Platform Engineering, and Cloud-Native development across GEICO and the broader engineering community.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with Application, CI, Security, SRE, and Observability teams to drive alignment on deployment strategies, platform engineering solutions, and software delivery automation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Influence architecture, mentor teams, and work with cross-functional teams to establish the overall general technical direction.
  • Deep understanding and hands-on experience with software delivery pipelines, release versioning, distributed systems, and release orchestration.
  • Experience with Development and DevOps platforms such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jenkins, etc.
  • Experience with progressive delivery techniques, including feature flags, canary releases, and blue/green deployments.
  • Prior experience in leading major DevOps and platform engineering transformation, cloud migration or open-source initiatives.
  • Experience designing service-to-service communication patterns, ingress/egress controls and Kubernetes traffic routing strategies using Istio Service Mesh.
