Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years experience working within investments and asset management organizations
  • Deep quantitative and analytical background; CFA and/or actuarial credentials strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of insurance, accounting, and regulatory issues that drive investment management decisions
  • Skills commensurate with holding a technical role in an insurance, insurance asset manager, or capital markets/sell side business
  • Strong fixed income knowledge including bond math, spreadsheet skills and facility with systems
  • Asset class expertise including credit, structured, private credit, commercial real estate, and alternatives
  • Deep knowledge of the portfolio management process for an insurance company or pension
  • Excellent written / verbal communications skills and the ability to present effectively to leadership at all levels
  • Strong functional capability with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Bloomberg

Responsibilities

  • Develop insurance portfolio strategy with focus on ALM, Stat income, risk-based capital and risk
  • Maintain strategic asset allocation models and implement enhancements as needed
  • Design strategies to support new business initiatives, legacy blocks and reinsurance transactions
  • Communicate potential strategies, actions and results with key business partners and senior management
  • Prepare and deliver presentations seeking committee approval for key investment strategies
  • Partner with internal trading and research teams to implement strategy, making tactical adjustments in response to market and business developments
  • Closely monitor and adapt to insurance industry and regulatory developments
  • Understand strategy implications for asset adequacy testing performed by Actuarial
  • Incorporate derivative strategies as needed
  • Manage portfolios to maintain compliance with investment guidelines and reinsurance trust requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred
