Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in state tax
- In depth understanding of state and local tax laws and regulations
- 3+ years of experience managing a team of professionals
- Excellent communication skills; ability to convey complex tax concepts to non-tax stakeholders
- Understanding of financial reporting standards and practices
- Ability to develop and implement tax strategies that align with organizational goals
- Ability to identify and resolve tax related issues effectively and efficiently
- Proficient with tax research tools and Microsoft Office Suite
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting; CPA preferred
Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of The Hartford’s State Tax Reporting and Compliance team.
- Oversee filing of state and local tax returns, including Premium, Income, Sales & Use Tax returns across all jurisdictions.
- Manage the accounting and reporting for all state taxes paid across all jurisdictions.
- Manage companies’ responses to various notices received from jurisdictions throughout the year and support audit & controversy efforts.
- Provide coaching and development opportunities to direct reports and managers.
- Strategize and oversee state tax planning initiatives and projects.
- Monitor state tax legislation across all 50 states, districts and territories for potential impacts to the Company.
Preferred Qualifications
- Insurance experience is strongly preferred
