Requirements
- Strong knowledge of civil and transportation engineering principles, design standards (AASHTO, MUTCD, FHWA), and relevant software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, etc.)
- Ability to oversee multiple projects, manage budgets, allocate resources, and ensure quality control while mitigating risks.
- Experience mentoring engineers, fostering a collaborative work environment, and driving team performance.
- Strong networking skills, ability to secure new projects, and manage client relationships, proposals, and contracts.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local transportation regulations, permitting processes, and funding mechanisms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication for reports, presentations, and contract negotiations.
- Ability to align civil/transportation projects with business goals, anticipate industry trends, and make informed executive decisions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois required.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in civil/transportation engineering, with at least 5 years in a lead role.
- Extensive experience working with IDOT on various transportation projects is essential.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic plans for the transportation division, aligning with the company’s overall mission and vision.
- Expand business volume with existing and new clients.
- Oversee the planning, design, and execution of transportation projects, ensuring they meet quality standards, budgets, and timelines.
- Administer responsibilities including but not limited to quality oversight, maintaining a 15% overall profitability for the group, ensuring adherence to the Project Management Plan, conducting recovery plan reviews for projects over budget or schedule, overseeing invoicing, reviewing staffing requirements, and conducting performance evaluations for direct reports.
- Collaborate across the organization to ensure team utilization goals are met or exceeded.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies, particularly IDOT.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and project managers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities in the civil, transportation, and construction sectors, including proposal development and presentations.
- Cultivate effective relationships with clients and team members.
- Support proposal opportunities that are strategically aligned with the group.
- Participate in the RFP/RFQ process, including site visits, client meetings, scope development, preparation of project approach, technical execution plans, schedules, and interviews.
- Ensure all projects comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as industry standards and best practices.
