Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
  • At least eight years of experience in financial management, budgeting, or accounting, preferably in higher education or a complex organizational setting.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Proficiency in financial reporting systems, spreadsheets, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience supervising administrative staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, management, and monitoring of the department’s annual budget, ensuring alignment with university policies and priorities.
  • Provide financial forecasts, multi-year budget planning, and variance analyses to support strategic planning efforts.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation while maintaining financial sustainability.
  • Continuously assess and enhance financial workflows, reporting structures, and budgetary processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Stay informed of industry trends, university policies, and financial regulations that impact departmental operations.
  • Lead the adoption of new financial tools and technologies that enhance budget planning and financial analysis capabilities.
  • Monitor expenditures, reconcile financial records, and ensure compliance with university policies, state and federal regulations, and grant requirements.
  • Develop and implement internal financial controls to safeguard departmental resources.
  • Prepare and review financial reports, ensuring accuracy and timely submission to university leadership and stakeholders.
  • Serve as a financial consultant to department leadership, providing analysis and recommendations on budgetary matters, financial risks, and funding strategies.
  • Collaborate with university finance offices, grants management teams, and other administrative units to ensure consistency and best practices in financial operations.
  • Oversee HR operations for the department, including hiring, onboarding, and personnel management in collaboration with department leadership and unit directors.
  • Ensure compliance with university HR policies, employment laws, and best practices related to employee relations, benefits, and compensation.
  • Serve as a liaison between department leadership and the Director of Human Resources for the Division of Student Affairs, assisting with performance management, professional development initiatives, and employee engagement strategies.
  • Consult with department leadership in the development of employee action plans and staff management.
  • Manage position funding allocations, salary planning, and workforce planning to align with budgetary constraints and departmental needs.
  • Oversee a senior administrative associate focused on departmental finances and human resources functions.
  • Oversee the student government financial advisor and provide direction for financial processes for student governance organizations, including student organization funding allocation, scholarship funds, reconciliation, and compliance.
  • Provide training and functional oversight for departmental leadership regarding budgeting procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business administration, finance, public administration, or a related field.
  • Experience in university budget planning and financial operations.
  • Experience with UT System financials and processes.
  • Knowledge of fund accounting, grants management, and higher education financial regulations.
  • Familiarity with financial software such as PeopleSoft, Workday, or similar platforms.
