Requirements

  • 7–10+ years in utility plant operations, with 3–5 years in a leadership role
  • Deep knowledge of boilers, chillers, electrical systems, water treatment, and distribution
  • Experience with SCADA, BAS, and CMMS technologies
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency in building automation systems (BAS), SCADA systems, and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices
  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the 24/7 operation of the Central Utility Plant, including boilers, chillers, pumps, electrical systems, and water treatment facilities
  • Manage the distribution systems for hot water, chilled water, electricity, and potable water to ensure uninterrupted service to campus or facility buildings
  • Monitor system performance, analyze data, and optimize operations to maximize efficiency and reliability
  • Lead, train, and mentor a team of operators, technicians, and support staff
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent and safe operations
  • Foster a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Develop and execute short- and long-term plans to modernize and improve plant and distribution system operations
  • Identify and implement energy efficiency initiatives and sustainability practices to reduce costs and environmental impact
  • Prepare and manage the operations budget, including labor, materials, and equipment costs
  • Monitor utility consumption and costs, identifying opportunities for savings and efficiency improvements
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental, safety, and energy codes
  • Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and emergency drills
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for operational emergencies, including system failures or outages
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans to minimize downtime and ensure rapid recovery
  • Manage relationships with vendors, contractors, and service providers to ensure high-quality work and timely project completion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Facilities maintenance, construction, operations, or related field
  • Masters: Business Administration
  • Project Management – Project Management Professional – Certification
