Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, experience or training.
- 10+ years of experience in footwear sample room management, prototyping, or technical manufacturing.
- Deep expertise in footwear construction, materials, and production techniques.
- Proven leadership experience managing cross-functional teams in a technical environment.
- Ability to optimize manufacturing workflows, implement automation, and manage equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and project management skills.
- Ability to travel up to 20%
Responsibilities
- Lead the integration of digital tools into the prototyping process, including 3D scanning, 3D printing, and digital visualization.
- Manage a team proficient in software such as Rhino, CLO 3D, Modo, Blender, or similar footwear-specific CAD programs.
- Develop workflows that combine traditional prototyping with digital simulations to accelerate product development.
- Ensure compatibility between 3D models and production manufacturing requirements, bridging digital and physical processes.
- Oversee all machinery and equipment used in the sample room and lab, including cutting equipment, stitching and sewing machines, 3D printing and rapid prototyping machine, heat and bonding equipment (presses, welding, and lamination machines).
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and upgraded to support cutting-edge prototyping and production efficiency.
- Optimize sample production workflows by implementing lean manufacturing principles and automation where applicable.
- Partner with GFD and CTS teams to test and implement new production techniques that enhance footwear durability, sustainability, and performance.
- Oversee a technical support platform that provides troubleshooting, solutions, and best practices for sample development and manufacturing teams.
- Develop and manage an internal Shoe School to train teams on footwear engineering, manufacturing techniques, and digital prototyping.
- Organize hands-on workshops covering pattern making, stitching, sole attachment, and 3D modeling.
- Foster partnerships with universities, material suppliers, and industry experts to enhance training programs.
- Ensure that all employees stay updated on emerging technologies in footwear production.
- Oversee procurement of machinery, tools, and consumable materials for sample development and lab testing.
- Develop relationships with suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and material vendors to ensure cost-effective and high-quality sourcing.
- Manage purchase orders (POs) and budgeting, ensuring all sample room operations run efficiently within allocated resources.
- Lead and mentor a team of technical specialists, craftsmen, and digital modelers, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Identify opportunities for process through the connection with Nike Bowerman Footwear Lab.
