Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Dietetics or related field from an accredited facility
- Current Registered Nurse licensure from the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation or Registered by the Commission of Dietetic Registration the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetic and currently licensed in the State of Illinois
- BLS certification
Responsibilities
- Functions as a clinical expert, resource and consultant for patients with diabetes
- Develops, plans, implements and evaluates education counseling for patients with diabetes and their families, staff and the community
- Provides appropriate referrals to community resources serving as a resource to the health care team
- Incorporates current Diabetes research findings into clinical practice and assesses, evaluates and recommends new therapy to enhance services while maintaining cost effectiveness
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as a diabetes educator with experience in education preferred
- If not currently certified, will obtain Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) certification after accumulating the required 1000 contact hours to sit for the exam
