Cytologist

Cytotechnologist certification or currently enrolled and at least halfway through a cytotechnologist program
Must meet CLIA education and experience standards for Cytotechnologist
Cytotechnologist (CT) certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 12 months of start date

Performs microscopic examination on gynecological and non-gynecological specimens
Detects, selects and clearly marks cells most representative of pathological processes
Prepares a provisional diagnosis for all gynecological and non-gynecological cases
Interprets acceptability of specimens received for testing
Assists in the collection of Fine Needle Aspirates
Exercises initiative and judgment in investigating, troubleshooting and resolving QC failure
Prepares a final diagnosis using established cytologic terminology for gynecologic specimens
Performs accessioning, routine staining and coverslipping of cytologic slides
Maintains clear and concise specimen identification throughout the entire analytical process
Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization
