Requirements

  • Bachelors of Industrial Design from an accredited college or university, or relevant professional experience
  • 10+ years of experience working as Color, Material and Finish Designer/Developer
  • Demonstrated experience of skill to communicate design vision and concepts using traditional techniques to internal teams and Leadership
  • Expert knowledge of plastic injection molding processes, metal fabrication techniques, resin development, coating technologies, plastics decoration processes, fabrics and textiles
  • Experience working directly with materials suppliers, manufacturing partners and cross-functional teams to solve complex product problems at scale
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD and digital visualization software

Responsibilities

  • Support the industrial design team through implementation of material design specifications
  • Establish and maintain quality standards and consistency across a portfolio of materials
  • Interface with industry and manufacturing partners to research and develop proprietary material combinations and new production techniques
  • Lead the resolution of design, prototyping and manufacturing issues during the development phase
  • Communicate and resolve manufacturing and prototyping challenges
  • Manage and maintain CMF product specifications for products in development from concept to production
  • Have a record of helping ship successful products in the Consumer Electronics, Wearable Technology, Fashion, or Eyewear industries and are experience of working collaboratively with cross-disciplined teams and manufacturing partners
  • Occasional domestic and international travel is a requirement for this position

  • extensive expertise in product development, particularly from those with a successful record of achievements in leading large-scale projects at organizations, who with a clear understanding of engineering disciplines, technical constraints, and human needs and naturally synthesize into solutions that are both elegant and achievable
