Requirements
- Five plus years of experience in operating CNC Milling and/or Turning and/or Grind equipment. (Such as, but not limited to: Johnford DMC, VMC, BMC)
- Five plus years of experience in creative problem solving on: Machine setups, Tooling, Fixturing.
- Firm understanding of: GD&T, Critical dimensioning, Relationship between dimensions.
- Basic CNC Macro coding experience.
Responsibilities
- Program and operate CNC machines in the machining of gas turbine engine components.
- Identify, develop, and create language and programs for CNC milling, turning, and grinding machines for the removal of material to achieve required dimensions prior to the application of coatings, after application of finish coatings, or to establish part features.
- Work with the Mastercam and NC Plot software to develop efficient and reliable CNC programming needs with process engineering and machinist input.
- Work from engineering drawings to plan, number, locate and direct the tool path.
- Develop and control new product programming procedures. For program development, this involves test running a piece and first piece inspection through program revisions.
- Test and evaluate completed CNC programming developed to ensure accuracy.
- Review current CNC programming to determine if changes or improvements are required, such as automation of current CNC programs and new product repair development.
- Document set-up information and set-up instructions to ensure a consistent quality of product repair.
- Assist in fixture and tooling design.
- Present findings and recommendations to applicable levels of the company.
- Participate in problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts. The position requires communication with engineers, training specialists, and other machinists to improve skill sets.
- Catalog and control program back-up procedure with the quality department.
- Dimensional accuracy may require the use of inspection gauges, comparator, micrometers, calipers, and miscellaneous hand tools.
- Accurately record findings on provided work instructions and documentation.
- Participate in problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts.
- From time-to-time, participate in the training process and offer expertise in the OJT program for various levels of machinist technicians.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical high school diploma, machinist trade school or equivalent work experience.
- Familiar with shop math principles and basic trigonometry.
- Understanding timing or rotational values.
- General skills such as use of hand-held power tools, files, assembly, and disassembly.
- Read, write, speak, understand English, and be able to communicate with other employees.
