Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree Nursing
  • 3 or more years of experience in risk management, paralegal services, claims settlement work or clinical nursing required.
  • English – Literacy requirements (read, write and speak English)
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong knowledge base of report writing.
  • Experience with online database management.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in day-to-day risk management operations, including risk mitigation, investigations, and responding to safety events.
  • Analyzes individual occurrences and trends and patterns for opportunities to prevent future patient injury.
  • Works closely with unit and department leaders to ensure timely response to event reports and timely standard of care assignments.
  • Ensure event management data is available to leaders to assist in reducing risk and quality improvement activities.
  • Provide root cause analysis support to risk managers.
  • Informs the clinical risk management team and health system leadership when high risk trends are identified.
  • Ensures event reports are investigated and closed in a timely manner.
  • Recommends changes in policies, practice, and procedures to prevent patient injury.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and education of event management policies.
  • Communicates timely with the claims and insurance team when potentially compensable events are identified.
  • Interviews employees, patient, patient family members, and others who are involved with an event, when necessary.
  • Performs special projects that involve data gathering, analysis, preparation of reports, development of recommendations and presentations.
  • Identifies educational opportunities based on event reporting trends.
  • Onboard new leaders and staff to the event management system.
  • Collaborates effectively with team members and other disciplines.
  • Able to skillfully communicate and partner with others via email, telephone and in person.
  • Uses time efficiently and effectively. Able to develop and meet project time frames.
  • Ability to work effectively from home and onsite.
  • Participate in taking risk management call.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Willingness to travel to off-site health system locations throughout the state of Kansas and Missouri.
