Requirements
- Satisfactory completion of an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited doctoral program (Ph.D. or Psy.D) in clinical and an (APA) accredited clinical internship.
- District of Columbia (D.C.) License to practice psychology.
- Four (4) years of responsible work experience in clinical psychology, including at least one year practicing as a licensed Clinical Psychologist and teaching or supervising trainees.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments to identify students’ mental health needs, using a variety of methods such as interviews and psychometric tests.
- Formulate individualized treatment plans for students, based on their unique needs, and update these plans as necessary throughout the course of treatment.
- Provide evidence-based psychological treatments, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), psychodynamic therapy, or other relevant therapeutic modalities.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions, workshops, and wellness seminars as needed, on topics such as stress management, mindfulness, and coping with mental health issues.
- Documents all patient care or other clinical activity appropriately and in a timely fashion in the Electronic Medical Record or approved medical record systems.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training activities to stay current with the latest advancements in the field of clinical psychology.
- Provide crisis intervention and management as necessary.
- Teaches psychology graduate students and psychology interns on clinical cases.
- Develops, collaborates, or participates in clinical research in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences; to the extent possible.
- Promotes adherence and actively participates in the Health Sciences Compliance Program, the Howard University Code of Ethics and the Health Sciences Standards of Conduct.
- Attends annual and periodic mandatory Compliance Program training including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy training.
- Participates in activities that promote adherence to federal healthcare program requirements.
- Adheres to the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Policies and Procedures.
- Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience in Clinical Psychology, including development, implementation, and supervision of clinical programs or services, and knowledge and experience in a broad range of evidence-based psychological treatments, psychological assessments, and understanding of psychology standards and practices.
- Excellence in teaching, mentoring, and supervising residents, pre- and post-doctoral students, and clinical staff and personnel.
- Understanding of clinical research methods and experience in clinical research.
