Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Three to five years general liability insurance industry claims management
- Skill in reviewing and analyzing medical records
- Solid knowledge of medical legal issues and/or claims and insurance industry practices
- Knowledge of general liability insurance programs
- Ability to perform critical thinking to interpret information from records and summaries of interviews in order to plan a course of action for addressing claims
Responsibilities
- Overall management of healthcare-related facility general liability claims
- Review, evaluate and analyze information relating to claims, lawsuits and events by reviewing medical records, reviewing contracts, conducting interviews with hospital staff, and collecting evidence related to claims
- Determine exposure and report findings to Associate General Counsel/Director of Claims and Litigation Management; evaluate, set and maintain reserves within assigned authority levels
- Facilitate effective communication with hospital administration, professional and ancillary staff and outside legal counsel
- Assist in the defense of cases, including the preparation of cases for trials
- Administer the general liability insurance program, review correspondence, meeting with, guiding, and directing outside defense counsel
- Engage in settlement negotiations with plaintiffs’ attorneys within assigned authority levels
- Direct further action regarding defense strategy, settlements or appeals
- Manage approved investigation including use of surveillance, outside expert opinions and physical examinations
