Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a field related to human service.
  • A bachelor’s degree unrelated to Human Services and either: One year of Human Services related experience; or Completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency.
  • An associate degree and either: Two years of Human Services related experience; or One year of Human Services related experience and related training, coursework or certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate reports of safety concerns for Oregon’s children and families.
  • Conduct child safety assessments of alleged child abuse or neglect.
  • Engage with children, families, resource parents and caregivers.
  • Conduct fact-finding interviews with children and parents/caregivers.
  • Gather collateral information from school personnel, doctors, therapists, family members, and law enforcement officers.
  • Arrange medical evaluations and substitute care placement for children as needed.
  • Balance the needs of the child and the family with legal rules, statutes, policies, and laws.
  • Meet timelines and documentation requirements.
  • Complete detailed and lengthy reports regarding the alleged abuse/neglect and family circumstances.
  • Present and testify in court as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using time management, organization, and prioritization skills to meet competing deadlines.
  • Experience using behavior management, crisis intervention, or conflict resolution techniques to de-escalate situations.
  • Experience using computer technology including Microsoft Word, Outlook and various computer systems/software.
  • Experience building collaborative relationships with community partners and people.
  • Experience writing detailed documents or reports that include a conclusion and recommended action with minimal spelling or grammar issues.
  • Experience applying an equitable and trauma-informed approach.
  • Experience making critical decisions during dynamic and evolving circumstances and information.
