Requirements
- High school diploma
- Graduation from an accredited school of surgical technology or surgical technology military program
- Certified Surgical Technologist credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or Educational and clinical training with documentation for surgical assisting and/or proof of completion of Military training as an Operating Room Specialist (68-D) plus 3 years of experience in the operating room environment
- New graduates must obtain certification within 90 days of graduation
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
Responsibilities
- Administers intra-operative care to patients within the surgical/operating room environment
- Collaborates with anesthesia, surgeons and other staff members
- Integrates physiologic, medical, surgical, and anesthetic information to give appropriate patient care
- Uses the principles of asepsis to assist the surgeon in the maintenance of the sterile field
- Effectively functions in the sterile environment, demonstrating knowledge and ability in performing the role of first scrub on all assigned surgical cases
- Cares for surgical patients of all ages and all levels of acuity
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience preferred
- Will consider LPN with previous scrub experience
- Two years’ experience within the operating room setting preferred
