Requirements
- A current, unencumbered Oregon Certified Medication Aide certification
- Completion of an Oregon State Board of Nursing-approved medication aide training program
- General knowledge of fundamentals of nursing practices and procedures, therapeutic treatment, wound care, pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, and human social relationships
- Skills in administering medications, using medical equipment, monitoring patients’ vital signs, preparing documentation, understanding instructions, responding to patients, using body mechanics, and working with adults in custody.
Responsibilities
- Administer oral, sublingual, and buccal medications
- Administer eye medications (with exceptions), ear, nasal, rectal, and vaginal medications
- Apply skin ointments and topical medications
- Administer medications by gastrostomy and jejunostomy tubes
- Administer PRN medications and regularly scheduled controlled substances
- Maintain logs and documentation records of pharmaceuticals
- Perform capillary blood glucose testing
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as hygiene and personal care
- Observe and report changes of condition to a licensed nurse.

- Ability to work effectively with a variety of professional staff
- Ability to respond firmly and tactfully with combative patients
- Experience in a correctional environment.
