Requirements
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
- Certified Medical Assistant certification.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, office procedures, and clinical practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to perform physical tasks related to patient care.
Responsibilities
- Preparing patients for exams, taking medical histories, performing basic lab tests, administering medications, injections, and immunizations including childhood.
- Taking vital signs, performing screening tests, assisting with procedures, working in urgent care, preparing, and sterilizing medical instruments.
- Manage provider schedule.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records using electronic health records (EHR).
- Communicating clearly with patients in person and by phone and gathering information relevant to their visit and condition.
- Coordinate communication between patients and provider to relay patient education, treatment plans, medication, and follow-up care.
- Working with cross functional teams within and outside the Student Health Center to coordinate patient care.
- Reporting significant changes in patient condition and other pertinent patient information to the provider.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of experience in a physician’s office, medical clinic, or hospital.
