Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (or a High School Diploma/GED with at least 4 years of Materials Science and/or Ceramics Engineering experience)
- U.S. Citizenship required due to government contract restrictions
Responsibilities
- Develop and apply key process parameters for all internal ceramic manufacturing
- Develop and maintain process control database and analyze for process improvements
- Define necessary tooling and fixtures needed for specific part manufacture
- Prepare and review of ceramic part and associated tool drawings; review engineering and process specification; documents results of technical activities in formal technical reports
- Directs root cause problem solving activities to resolve manufacturing and field service performance problems related to ceramic materials
- Define and execute a supply chain strategy for ceramic products to include internal/external vendor mix and work in qualifying external vendors to meet ceramic specification requirements
- Collaborate with Product Design engineers to define ceramic materials for New Product Development and legacy products
- Plans and conducts material and process development programs to improve performance and producibility of alumina and non-oxide (silicon-nitride and silicon carbide) based composite ceramics, and their related processes
- Directs verification and performance testing of ceramic materials using industry standard ASTM test methods and performance evaluations in products
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of ceramic raw materials selection, powder processing and spray drying, iso-pressing, tool design, machining, sintering and material testing
- Desire experience with manufacture of oxide and non-oxide ceramic materials like alumina, silicon nitride, silicon carbide, and Sialon; specifying and performing related processes including glazing, metallic coatings, glass-sealing, and ceramic to metal brazing; experienced in use of ceramic material laboratory analysis equipment, and common desktop computer tools
- Self-starter, able to work with limited supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to execute projects and manage production activities
- Demonstrated expertise in process controls in ceramic manufacturing
- Some knowledge of ceramic materials in Hot, Aggressive environments in Aerospace or Automotive engine environments would be given preference
