Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, computer and typing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ongoing surveillance of patients’ cardiac monitors, cardiac rhythm and vital signs.
  • Notify nursing caregivers of changes in cardiac rhythm and/or hemodynamics that could impact the patient’s condition.
  • Interpret patient’s cardiac rhythm and document in the patient’s electronic medical record.
  • Answer the telephone and communicate clearly when receiving and delivering information.
  • Orient and mentor new caregivers and serve as a training and troubleshooting resource for the CMU and nursing units.
  • Provide reports for the oncoming shift.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities through successful completion of a formal training program in Allied Health or a healthcare field.
  • Patient care experience in a hospital, nursing home or healthcare field.
  • Completion of EKG/Cardiac Monitoring course.
  • EKG certification or equivalent.
  • Experience as a Monitor Technician, Medical Assistant, Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA), EKG Technician, or EMT.
  • Demonstrated skill in recognizing abnormal cardiac rhythms.
