Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering or other quantitative field (e.g. finance or a social/behavioral science); OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- 10 years progressive data and analytics experience developing strategies, managing major initiatives and delivering results within a complex matrixed environment.
- 8 years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams.
- Experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions and managing work to achieve strategic goals.
- Senior executive-level business acumen in the areas of measuring business outcomes, business operations, industry practices and emerging trends.
- Experience sponsoring matrixed teams using Agile methodologies.
- Extensive experience building data and analytic teams and capabilities to support business decision making.
- Proven ability to tell a story through data and communicate problem, impact and recommendations effectively with senior leadership.
- Expert ability to consult and advise senior leaders on analytic needs to achieve business objectives.
- Experience developing and implementing an analytic strategic roadmap aligned with business needs.
- Experience with large complex database systems and architecture, structured and unstructured data; with diverse analytics methodologies and approaches.
- Involvement with industry groups establishing best practices and advancements in data and analytics.
- Deep understanding of risk management and compliance practices with experience developing data strategies that mitigate risk.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates senior executive-level thought leadership, strategy development, and financial and operational planning associated with CoSA data storage, data preparation, data exploration, information governance, analytics, and information delivery.
- Provides strategic intent and directional guidance in defining and developing overall business analytics strategy aligned to enterprise objectives.
- Responsible for directing, influencing, and maintaining analytical roadmap and prioritization in alignment with business capability and technology roadmaps.
- Sponsors broad functional and Enterprise initiatives and may be assigned by the Chief Data & Analytics Officer to chair executive working groups advancing data and analytic capabilities for USAA.
- Maintains a strong external presence with data and analytics leaders and research to keep current of industry leading practices and advances.
- Applies subject-matter-expert functional knowledge to lead subordinate teams in the development of new techniques and best practices delivering data and analytic products in support of departmental and Enterprise initiatives.
- Oversees the development of functional policies, procedures and guidelines in alignment with Enterprise standards.
- Identifies opportunities and facilitates transformative improvements to operating models and systems within assigned CoSA and across the Data and Analytics Community.
- Responsible for monitoring and holding Information Executives within a CoSA accountable for adherence with Information Governance policy and standards.
- Serves in a senior executive leadership capacity and has responsibility for performance management and professional development activities for subordinate workers, calibration and development of talent across the USAA data and analytics community and expansion of data literacy within assigned CoSA.
- Builds and oversees a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency in data analysis techniques: This includes statistical modeling (regression, time series analysis, etc.), machine learning (classification, regression, clustering, etc.), data mining, and data visualization. Specific experience with risk-related data analysis (e.g., operational risk analysis) is highly valuable.
- Experience with data governance and quality control: The candidate should understand data quality principles and have experience implementing processes to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Experience building and deploying predictive models: The ability to develop and deploy models to forecast risks and identify potential issues proactively is a key requirement.
- Strong understanding of risk management principles and methodologies: The candidate should be familiar with various risk assessment frameworks, risk appetite, and risk tolerance. Experience in applying data analytics to support risk management processes is essential.
- Knowledge of specific risk types: Familiarity with various types of risk (operational, financial, regulatory, strategic, etc.) relevant to the organization is critical.
- Ability to translate business problems into analytical solutions: The candidate should be able to understand business needs, translate them into analytical questions, and develop appropriate solutions.
