Building Inspector

High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
Four (4) years of experience in building construction trades, construction and architecture inspections, or civil engineering
Standard Inspector (Building, Mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing) License required or the ability to qualify for and obtain a provisional (Building, Mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing) state license within the time period allotted by the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation
Valid Florida Driver’s License or from another state for transfer within 30 days of hire
Thorough knowledge of construction terminology, techniques, and procedures, including the ability to read and understand complex construction documents and plans
Ability to meet and deal with the general public in a tactful and effective manner
Ability to follow through on findings of irregularities to comply with approved standards
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
Considerable knowledge of Florida laws, City ordinances, rules and regulations, and principles and practices of inspection techniques

Conduct inspections of mechanical systems, including HVAC, ventilation, and related installations
Ensure compliance with Florida Building Code and local mechanical regulations
Review plans, permits, and onsite work for proper installation and safety
Communicate with contractors, engineers, and property owners to resolve discrepancies
Document findings and assist in enforcement actions as necessary
Work independently under the general supervision of the Chief Building Inspector
