Requirements

  • Successful completion of the DoD Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) program or an associate’s degree in biomedical electronics technology from an accredited institution and be a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET), Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist (CLES)
  • Ability to install, maintain, service, modify, troubleshoot and calibrate a variety of environmental compliance devices by interpreting engineering and vendor information, schematic diagrams and graphic illustrations
  • Minimum one year’s experience in repair and maintenance of equipment related to research
  • Ability to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level, but current clearance is not required.
  • Due to Federal contract requirements, US citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS); American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation); or equivalent. Web based classes do not meet these standards.
  • Willingness to work in San Antonio, Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance and support in the following activities: set up, maintain, and calibrate research equipment, and make minor adjustments to research apparatus to improve operation and correct problems caused by normal wear during use in research under contract
  • In collaboration with Government researchers/Principal Investigators (PIs), ensure that imposed environmental conditions are strictly regulated and accurately match the prescribed experimental plan
  • Provide support in professional biomedical engineering/repair functions involving medical research practices to support the laboratory’s efforts
  • Support the Government in directing integration, fabrication, and functional testing of systems after installation to ensure performance meets specifications and customer requirements
  • Conduct administrative duties related to research equipment records and preventive maintenance actions
  • Receive and account for equipment; perform inventory and technical inspection of equipment; conduct scheduled maintenance and servicing; repair unserviceable equipment; prepare unserviceable equipment for evacuation; perform procurement actions for repair parts/consumables; and operate tools/equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in military medical research laboratory (preferred)
