Requirements

  • BA/BS or equivalent in life science, engineering, sciences or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience within the Life Sciences, Diagnostics or Med Tech industry in an R&D/Innovation role.
  • Experience working with teams on the development of new technologies.
  • Experience working in or across multiple divisions within an organization (commercial team, scientific team, business team).
  • Experience with managing/leading cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with the implementation of best-in-class Innovation tools, including Visual Project Management, Kaizen and Problem Solving.
  • Highly effective communication with excellent organizational skills.
  • Analytical skill set and background.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience presenting to leadership in an accurate and concise manner.
  • Strong experience working with diverse technology platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and support innovation tools and processes, which will be used to drive improvement across the innovation and development process. Key focus will be on schedule compression, improved OTD, cost reduction and improved quality.
  • Work with the Sr. Director of BD Excellence – Innovation and R&D leadership to strategically deploy the developed tools and processes throughout the global R&D organization. Drive culture change for the adoption of BD Excellence tools and processes into the ethos of how BD develops products.
  • Work with R&D leadership to develop and enhance core competencies within each business unit (BU) R&D team to drive continuous improvement and a Kaizen culture without segment oversight.
  • Establish certified practitioners in each BU in the utilization of R&D process excellence tools, including Visual Project Management, Problem Solving and Kaizen.
  • Support the continuous development of BD Excellence tools to monitor R&D performance that clearly identify where issues exist so they can be problem solved quickly.
  • Train associates in the art of problem solving, using a Toyota based approach to creating paretos and developing actions to solve key issues (80/20 rule).
  • Implement and support process and technologies for information sharing that maximizes the collective to drive quality across each BU.
  • Work across the enterprise-wide R&D organization leveraging BD Excellence best practices to drive innovation and new product development.
  • Work with project teams to ensure tollgate alignment with key technical and commercial requirements.
  • Proactively champion a culture of data driven decision making across all BD segments, including training, coaching, and mentoring associates on best practice methodologies and toolsets.
  • Serve as a change ambassador to drive organizational awareness and adoption of newly developed tools and processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Business systems and Lean Tools
  • Certification as a trainer or facilitator
  • Experience working to solve quality challenges in a ‘Tiger Team’ environment with tight time frames and pressure
  • Experience in a regulatory environment (FDA/ICH) (highly desirable)
