Requirements
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, with 2-5 years of experience in battery and thermal testing, preferably in the automotive, aerospace, or energy storage industries.
- Hands-on experience with battery test equipment, high-voltage systems, thermal sensors, and environmental chambers.
- Familiarity with thermal characterization methods, including heat flux measurements, IR thermography, and cooling system evaluations.
- Experience with test automation, data acquisition, and analysis tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW).
- Basic understanding of battery systems, BMS, cooling technologies, and thermal safety testing.
- Ability to troubleshoot test setups, instrumentation, and data collection issues.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with test engineers, technicians, and design teams.
- This role may require up to 25% travel for test site support.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute battery performance, durability, and safety tests, focusing on thermal management and high-voltage safety.
- Set up test equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems for battery cycling, thermal characterization, and abuse testing.
- Conduct thermal runaway, heat dissipation, and cooling system performance testing for battery packs and modules.
- Support high-voltage and environmental testing, including overcharge, vibration, and mechanical stress tests.
- Collect, process, and analyze thermal and electrical test data, identifying key trends and failure modes.
- Work closely with battery design, thermal, and systems engineering teams to optimize cooling strategies and heat dissipation.
- Ensure test lab safety by following high-voltage procedures and thermal safety best practices.
- Maintain organized documentation of test plans, results, and observations to support design improvements and certification efforts.
