Requirements
- Doctor of Jurisprudence
- Admitted or eligible for bar admission to practice in State of Oregon, and Florida, if required. New York Bar admission preferred.
- Minimum of four years legal experience providing advice and counsel required.
- Knowledge of state and federal insurance laws governing group voluntary supplemental insurance products.
- Strong communications skills, including ability to produce clear, concise, complete, and persuasive work product, and active listening and persuasive advising.
- Ability to deliver successful presentations to internal and external audiences.
Responsibilities
- Advise business units on insurance-related issues.
- Work closely with business units and Compliance to develop or update insurance products and related forms, documents, letters and processes.
- Draft, analyze, and review contracts to minimize legal risk and maximize business opportunities.
- Monitor & analyze developments in laws and regulations impacting insurers and provide proactive updates to impacted business units.
- Review and negotiate agreements including nondisclosure agreements, business associate agreements, vendor agreements, requests for proposals, and other third-party agreements.
- Assist with responses to audits and market conduct exams conducted by state or federal agencies.
- Formulate potential risks and outcomes of new business initiatives, demonstrating a holistic understanding of business goals and risks.
- Efficiently formulate accurate and comprehensive advice that is understandable and digestible by business partners.
- Participate in industry group meetings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Group voluntary supplemental insurance products or similarly regulated products experience (strongly preferred).
