Requirements
- Ability to analyze, troubleshoot and maintain copper, fiber optic and microwave communication paths
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- 0-3 years related experience is required
- Knowledge of utility power systems is preferred
- Ability to independently develop, present and execute new projects through collaborations with other departments
Responsibilities
- Provides support directly or in collaboration with technical services personnel and engineering in performing maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and installation of active telecommunications infrastructure
- Maintains accurate records and files
- Assists in the preparation, markup and review of engineering drawings, schematics, wiring, logic, and interconnection diagrams relating to telecom work
- Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity
- Requests, reviews and tests firewall policies related to basic Telecom systems including identification of required TCP/UDP ports
- Uses protocol analyzers such as Wireshark to inspect traffic flow and evaluate network performance data and ensures operation is within network specifications
- Creates basic system installation and troubleshooting technical procedures, plans, scripts for technician use
- Assists technicians in the execution of basic test procedures, plans, and scripts in support of installation and maintenance
- Manages telecom emergency spares inventory including the creation of new stock coded material numbers in Maximo and provides recommendations for minimum and maximum quantities
- Interprets test results, makes recommendations to engineering, operations, maintenance, and other personnel based on hardware characteristics or performance
- Provides recommendations related to tools for individual and group use for the installation and maintenance of communication systems
- Supports telecom specific server applications and manages interactions with IT for support of server infrastructure
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with power related software is preferred
- Engineering design experience preferred
