Requirements
- 10-12 years of communications experience in the news/media industry
- Experience working with executive leaders on internal, external and crisis communications, preferably in a matrixed organization
- A strategic, proactive mindset and a strong news judgment
- Deep industry relationships and proven experience working with reporters, editors, producers and influencers
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to craft compelling messages that cut through
- Experience developing and executing impactful communications campaigns aligned with strategic priorities
- A professional, collaborative and team-oriented approach to your work
- Excellent project management skills and a solution-oriented mindset
- Strong people management skills and an appetite to mentor and grow talent
Responsibilities
- Report to the VP of External Communications and be based in our New York City office
- Contribute to the overall strategy development and implementation of our external communications team with an eye towards fostering collaboration, breaking down silos and creating opportunities to tell holistic stories across our business
- Work with the head of external communications to set the communications strategy for our news brands: The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, MarketWatch, Investor’s Business Daily, Financial News, Private Equity News and Dow Jones Risk Journal
- Drive external and internal communications for newsroom leaders, including getting stories placed, promoting our journalism, managing and building executive profiles, guiding change and protecting our brand reputation
- Lead and execute the global communications plan for our newsrooms, directly managing a small communications team and working closely with teams in Asia and Europe to promote our journalism around the world through proactively securing high-impact media coverage
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key journalists, producers, event organizers and industry peers to create new opportunities to promote Dow Jones and our brands
- Protect our company and brands’ reputation by identifying risks and quickly preparing responses, serving as a company spokesperson
- Manage internal communications for our newsrooms, ensuring teams get important updates, and working closely with our corporate internal communications team on storytelling across our company-wide channels and platforms
- Play a key role in contributing to a strong team and company culture, taking to heart our values of collaboration, impact, trust and excellence
