Requirements

  • Graduate or undergraduate degree in design or related major
  • 5+ years in a mid-level to senior design role at a creative agency, in-house studio, or similar environment with demonstrated ability to lead projects and deliver exceptional results
  • Keen interest in the variety and complexity of NYCEDC’s work—our city, our mission, and the fascinating industries we work with and within
  • Diverse portfolio showcasing expertise across brand identity, digital design, print collateral, campaign development, and social media that stands out in crowded feeds
  • Demonstrated experience in comprehensive digital and print projects from inception to completion, including environmental graphic design and business-to-business communications
  • Mastery of typography, color theory, layout design, and visual hierarchy with ability to execute concepts that are both strategically sound and culturally informed
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (required); working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Canva, Figma, and email marketing platforms (preferred)
  • Demonstrated written communication and presentation skills with proven experience communicating design concepts and strategic thinking in a clear, engaging, jargon-free manner
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborative environments, a valued partner, and enthusiastic team player who thrives on creative challenges
  • Experience with production techniques across digital and print media, understanding processes, standards, and best practices
  • Applicants without a portfolio will not be considered
  • New York City residence is required within 180 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Create innovative, content-aligned creative solutions that resonate with diverse industries and audiences, flexibly translating brand strategy and business objectives into comprehensive design solutions and compelling visual concepts
  • Oversee design projects from initial concept through final delivery, creating cohesive and accessible visual campaigns that span digital platforms, print materials, environmental graphics, and event experiences that capture attention and drive engagement
  • Elevate and maintain the integrity and excellence of the NYCEDC brand in all communications, educating and championing the brand with internal and external audiences while ensuring consistency across all touchpoints
  • Present creative work confidently to NYCEDC leadership, senior staff, and the Marketing team—contributing to meetings, presentations, and discussions in a clear, focused manner that educates, advocates, and builds organizational knowledge of branding best practices
  • Build and continuously develop design templates and systems that streamline workflows while maintaining creative excellence and staying ahead of design trends and emerging technologies
  • Deliver compelling creative solutions on tight timelines while being nimble and agile enough to react to shifting organizational priorities from City Hall and EDC leadership
  • Help build and shape a strong, positive creative team culture, exhibiting the collaborative spirit and resilience that represents NYCEDC favorably and professionally
