Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field of study from an accredited college/university
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in news management with noted leadership skills
  • Working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel and privacy laws
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple hours of daily newscasts and shows
  • Excellent supervisory, people and management skills
  • Unique and diverse combination of computers, engineering, budgeting, purchasing, cost control, personnel issues and planning experience along with a background in journalism and TV news
  • Ability to use newsroom computer systems, including iNews

Responsibilities

  • Managing a large editorial team
  • Working closely with the managing editor, executive producers, reporters, and digital staff
  • Leveraging strong planning skills to ensure the seamless execution of news coverage
  • Contributing to the resolution of staffing and equipment issues
  • Effectively managing newsroom expenses, subpoenas, licensing, and vendor contracts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience spearheading overall newsroom operations in the absence of the VP News Director
  • A track record of coaching executive producers and managers through conflict resolution and communication issues
  • Proficiency in analyzing digital data and trends to inform and optimize the station’s online strategy
  • Experience in building engaging newscasts and social media promotional campaigns for apps
  • Demonstrated ability to train staff on new technology, workflows, and distribution tools
  • Ability to build relationships with community groups and experience planning station initiatives
  • Track record of conceptualizing, researching, staffing, and launching new original programming
  • Experience in managing staffing, editorial, logistical, and strategic organization of breaking and major news events
