Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA designation (or actively pursuing) strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or senior accounting role.
  • Strong understanding of real estate, development, or construction industry accounting (asset).
  • Deep knowledge of ASPE and experience with financial statement preparation and consolidation.
  • Demonstrated experience with month-end close, reconciliations, and maintaining general ledgers.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems (QuickBooks, Sage, TimberScan, and/or ERP systems), advanced Excel skills required; Power BI a plus.
  • Experience with tax filings, payroll processing, and compliance.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate books and records for corporate and project entities.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, subsidiary ledgers, intercompany balances, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Prepare and deliver timely, accurate monthly financial statements and reporting packages for development projects and at the corporate level.
  • Ensure all reporting conforms with ASPE and internal company policies.
  • Prepare and consolidate financial information for management review and external audits.
  • Update and monitor cash flow reports for the corporate entities.
  • Assist with monthly P&L analysis, highlighting variances and providing actionable insights.
  • Support external and internal audit processes, including preparing schedules and responding to auditor queries.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls to ensure integrity of financial information and compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Coordinate and ensure timely tax filings, payroll processing, and regulatory submissions.
  • Expertise in financial analysis and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Strong understanding of key financial metrics and ratios.
  • Proficiency in interpreting complex financial data and providing actionable insights.
  • Proven experience in developing and maintaining financial models for budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
  • Strong ability to conduct variance analysis and provide actionable insights to drive cost efficiencies and revenue growth.
  • Proficiency in implementing FP&A tools and dashboards for real-time reporting and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure all development-related financial transactions are recorded and reflected correctly.
  • Prepare and review project-specific financial statements and support other accounting needs associated with project delivery.
  • Identify process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy within accounting and reporting functions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA designation (or actively pursuing) strongly preferred.
  • Power BI a plus.
