Requirements

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited program in Anesthesiology Technology or a suitable combination of education and experience
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance to Anesthesiologists/CRNA’s during patient induction, maintenance and emergence from anesthesia.
  • Assists the Anesthesiologists/CRNA’s with the placement of regional anesthetics and invasive monitoring devices.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies necessary to provide quality and cost effective anesthesia care to all patients.
  • Applies principals of infection control and safety, including proper handling, cleaning and sterilizing and/or disposal of equipment/supplies used in regular and contaminated cases.
  • Sets up sterile equipment such as intravenous, central venous, arterial and pulmonary artery catheters using sterile technique.
  • Sets up, operates, and disassembles cell saver equipment and rapid infuser devices as assigned.
  • Performs standard procedural checks on equipment; reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor. Ensures sterility and cleanliness of specialized equipment including TEE’s, fiberoptic scopes and LMA’s.
  • Ensures workroom areas are clean and orderly before, during and after each shift.
  • Ensures that equipment, supplies and medication are available at each operating room location.
  • Recommends changes in supplies and equipment through the Anesthesia Department. Assists with preventive maintenance programs and maintenance of records.
  • Assists with procuring and returning monitoring equipment used during the transport of patients from the operating room to ICU’s or other locations.
  • Is competent to care for patients based upon the age groups treated.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two to three years experience, as an anesthesia technician
  • Certification by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT)
