Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
  • One (1) year of experience in finance, accounting or other closely related area
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines
  • Knowledge of business management principles and practices
  • Knowledge of accounting for capital assets, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures
  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures
  • Customer service oriented and collaborative with internal and external parties
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Knowledge of auditing standards and procedures
  • Ability to prepare financial reports
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
  • Ability to plan, organize, implement, and administer complex recordkeeping systems and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, records and reconciles all capital assets/projects including construction in progress, and all related financing of such assets.
  • Maintains Capital Project Request online form and workflow approvals.
  • Reviews and approves capital projects requests and provides necessary information to Project Management Office.
  • Establishes and manages project activity in Workday, including related worktags and budgets.
  • Monitors capital/project budgets and communicates variances and overages to management.
  • Collaborates with Project Management Office and reviews purchase requisitions, change orders and invoices to ensure accurate accounting for projects and capital assets.
  • Records depreciation of all capital assets.
  • Reconciles capital assets subsidiary ledger to general ledger.
  • Records, classifies and summarizes financial transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Records and reconciles capital related bank or general ledger accounts on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis.
  • Records all activity related to bond issuances and the related debt service accounts, including principle and interest payments and amortization, according to bond documents.
  • Identifies and resolves outstanding items on various reconciliations.
  • Prepares and completes journal entries for various accounts.
  • Develops reports for submittal to regulatory and funding agencies.
  • Assists in the development of financial reports for the college governing board.
  • Analyzes financial accounts and reports for presentation to independent auditors.
  • Serves on assigned committees and panels as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in governmental or higher education finance and accounting.
  • Experience with Workday ERP.
  • Experience with construction or capital asset accounting.
