Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- two (2) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Responsibilities
- Guide assigned students in their academic success from orientation to commencement in generally routine issues, collaborating with their supervisor on more complex issues.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across campus, including other advisors, faculty, campus offices, and administrators.
- Explain, interpret, and apply unit and University policies, procedures, and program requirements.
- Counsel students in analyzing their unique causes of academic difficulty and recommend typically pre-established guidelines.
- Empower students to plan their academic program, audit student progress toward degree completion, and certify student degree requirements in assigned program areas.
- Assist students in the selection of majors and minors appropriate to their interests, backgrounds, and academic qualifications.
- Utilize advising software to maintain accurate and detailed advising notes, track students, and use data to identify student needs.
- Assist students in following established procedures for resolving problems requiring action by unit and other university committees.
- Collaborate with internal partners within to connect students to other professionals for all matters of concern affecting them as students.
- Respond to unit and UofL initiatives such as enrollment outreach, retention efforts, progress reports, and more.
- Promote student success for all within UofL’s diverse student population by providing student-centered, highly engaged student contact.
- Participate in professional development and integrate new or improved knowledge into advising and student success practices.
