Requirements
- Train CDL drivers in a classroom setting
- Ensure DOT compliance knowledge
- Instruct employees on safe and efficient job performance
- Communicate with operations to report safety trends and recommend corrective actions
- Valid driver’s license required (CDL required)
- Strong commitment to safety
- Satisfactory attendance and performance
- Basic computer skills required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- 3+ years’ experience in job duties
- Extensive knowledge of OSHA and DOT safety requirements
- Excellent communication skills, Spanish bilingual required
- Experience in transportation, sanitation/solid waste industry strongly preferred
- 1-2 years of Health & Safety/Transportation Compliance experience
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local government Health & Safety/ Transportation regulations (including but not limited to: DOT, OSHA, NYC BIC, DSNY, NYDEC/ NJDEP, etc.)
- Strong analytical and organizational abilities, coupled with the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
Responsibilities
- Promote and follow safety policies; lead by example to support a strong safety culture
- Perform safety observations and assessments to ensure all safety practices, programs, record keeping, and other related activities are followed and performed to company, customer and regulatory standards; correct unsafe practices before work continues
- Conduct site audits to ensure safe, compliant operations; follow up on corrective actions
- Lead or participate in safety stand-downs and meetings as needed
- Ensure workers have access and are using proper PPE; carry extra supplies for field needs
- Investigate incidents and prepare written reports
- Assist with injury care and management
- Participate or lead Incident Review Team meetings; identify root causes and make recommendations for corrective actions
- Provide safety, transportation, and SOP training as needed
- Monitor and manage training records with corporate support; ensure employee compliance
- Ensure safety signage and warnings are clear, legible, and properly posted.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in transportation, sanitation/solid waste industry strongly preferred
- 1-2 years of Health & Safety/Transportation Compliance experience
