Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in insurance compliance roles
- Deep knowledge of form/rate/rule filing processes and responding to state insurance departments
- Proven track record of building compliance programs or scalable processes
- Proficiency reviewing policy forms, manuscript language, and regulatory interpretations
- Experience managing regulatory relationships and licensing across multiple states
- Interest or experience in cybersecurity and data privacy compliance is a plus
- Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with strong project ownership
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to simplify complex regulations for diverse audiences
- Thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments and can juggle multiple priorities
Responsibilities
- Compile, prepare, and submit rate, rule, and form filings for P&C insurance offerings
- Draft responses to state regulatory inquiries and objections
- Track changes in insurance regulations and proactively advise stakeholders
- Evaluate insurance forms to ensure compliance with state-specific rules
- Partner with actuarial and underwriting on rate level indications and product design
- Build a scalable compliance roadmap for existing and emerging products
- Develop policy and procedure manuals for internal teams, agents, and carrier partners
- Establish a systematic approach for handling recurring regulatory issues (e.g., manuscripting, large risk exemptions)
- Maintain and expand a centralized compliance knowledge base for operational consistency
- Oversee Shepherd’s licensing across jurisdictions, including corporate filings and agency appointments
- Evaluate vendors for license management and regulatory compliance services
- Maintain relationships with state and federal regulators
- Ensure compliance of fees and charges under applicable regulations
- Identify and manage compliance risks for new products
- Advise leadership on regulatory considerations for potential new product verticals
- Partner with engineering to integrate compliance into product design and automation efforts
- Ensure compliance with data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, NYDFS cybersecurity regulations)
- Oversee data protection protocols and cybersecurity compliance in partnership with engineering
- Monitor technology systems for compliance requirements
