Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Three years post-degree engineering experience in the refining, petrochemical or related industry
  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future
  • Must be able to climb ladders, enter towers, examine remote equipment, and work within confined spaces
  • A valid driver’s license is required

Responsibilities

  • Act as the site subject matter expert regarding the selection, construction, and management of fixed equipment assets including vessels, exchangers, valves, piping, heaters, etc.
  • Support assigned Area Teams by being an active team member, providing expertise to support team goals, and continually looking for opportunities to prevent incidents, reduce operating costs, improve reliability, and eliminate non-value-added activities
  • Oversee our asset management strategies utilizing a working knowledge of refinery specific damage mechanisms and typical asset failure modes to ensure proper tasks are assigned
  • Perform engineering evaluations to include Fitness for Service and flange assembly calculations
  • Manage asset information and data to ensure equipment history and records are accurate and complete
  • Analyze equipment history and failure data to support data driven decisions and identify bad actors and threats
  • Utilize root cause analysis methodologies to understand issues or risks to operations and develop mitigations
  • Support the Mechanical Integrity program and ensure compliance with industry best practices
  • Assist in development of refinery procedures to be aligned with industry and corporate standards
  • Participate in corrosion studies or material reviews to identify potential damage mechanisms and assist in solving material degradation problems
  • Support Turnaround and Routine Maintenance through identification and submittal of appropriate scope, development of repair plans, evaluation of findings, and other similar tasks as needed
  • Assist Engineering, Inspection, and Construction groups with design and installation decisions and development of inspection plans
  • Network with Corporate reliability groups including the Fixed Equipment Advisory Group (FEAG) and Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineering Work Group (FEREWG)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five to ten years post-degree engineering experience in the refining, petrochemical or related industry
  • Experience with conducting risk assessments, performing failure analysis, fitness for service, and supporting inspection or fixed equipment engineering activities
  • Solid understanding of refining industry practices and damage mechanisms (e.g. API 510, 570, 653, 580/581, 579)
  • Software experience; GE Meridium (APM) V4 experience, SAP
