Requirements

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
  • Must be admitted to practice and in good standing in at least one jurisdiction in the United States.
  • A minimum of eight years of general litigation experience, including experience managing all aspects of discovery, conducting motions practice, and driving settlement negotiations.
  • Prior experience managing attorneys or paralegals.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with the COLT team, other legal lanes, internal business clients, and outside counsel to develop strategies to achieve DaVita’s business goals.
  • Developing and executing litigation strategy for a multi-state portfolio of payor collection matters.
  • Internal handling of legal disputes: analyzing legal claims; drafting demand letters; and negotiating and drafting settlement agreements.
  • Managing and directing outside counsel, including to review and manage outside counsel budgets and spend.
  • Providing legal advice and guidance to business clients on an array of payor collection and litigation issues.
  • Supporting legal and operational leadership, as well as senior management, through clear and concise written and oral communication to understand the impact of litigation on the business.
  • Developing a thorough understanding of the company’s business as a critical component in formulating legal guidance.
  • Participating in process improvement and establishment of best demonstrated practices.
  • Being an enthusiastic participant in the life of the JLD and JLD committees.
  • Navigating a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with healthcare payor collection / litigation matters is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of ERISA is a plus.
  • Experience clerking and/or working at a national or regional firm is a plus.
  • General understanding of relevant health care compliance issues (i.e., AKS, Stark, HIPAA).
  • Team oriented with a focus on collaboration, support, and continuous improvement.
  • Can-do attitude and a drive to take on new responsibilities with the support of a tightknit team.
