Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited graduate school
  • Seven years of progressively responsible professional library work
  • At least three years experience as a branch manager or at the supervisory level
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license
  • Must possess and maintain licensure from the Georgia State Board for the Certification of Librarians

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff
  • Develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control
  • Compiles and reviews timesheets
  • Approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate
  • Assists with or completes employee performance appraisals
  • Directs work and acts as a liaison between employees and management
  • Trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work
  • Ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work
  • Monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work
  • Consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise
  • Reviews progress and activity reports and management
  • Assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate
  • Manages and supervises the operations of a major library function such as public outreach, collection management, training, reference, or circulation
  • Coordinates daily work activities
  • Makes work assignments and provides training as needed

  • Oversees assigned functional area, exercising full responsibility and authority regarding staff, programs, collections, and general operations of unit
  • Evaluates operations for optimal delivery of public service

  • Provides direct input on overall management of the library
  • Interprets library policies to the public and enforces library policies
  • Represents the library and the assigned functional area of service to library patrons and the community

  • Manages petty cash funds
  • Maintains awareness of legislation affecting library operations and area of assignment
  • Participates and facilitates departmental and community meetings to discuss, review, advise, and clarify staff and patron issues related to programs, services, policies and procedures
  • Plans and supervises outreach functions for the library
  • Oversees staff and operation of facilities
  • Oversees provision of services including service levels and coverage areas
  • Coordinates library’s provision of and participation in community events and activities with organizations and associations

  • Coordinates lending, renewal, inter-library loans, transfer, locating, and shelving of materials and resources
  • Oversees the development of the library’s collections in all formats
  • Recommends the selection, retention, and development of all collections
  • Selects books and materials for purchase and prepares order lists
  • Removes and weeds outdated, worn, and little-used materials from library collections as needed
  • Selects books from donations to add to collection
  • Reads current books, periodicals, and book reviews and reports
  • Oversees the development, promotion and schedule of training opportunities for library staff and patrons
  • Develops, plans and presents classes to library staff
  • Encourages and approves national, state and local conference attendance
  • Coordinates annual staff development day
  • Creates, updates and maintains forms for staff and patron use
  • Manages content and access for staff intranet
  • Monitors inventory levels of equipment and supplies
  • Initiates requests for new or replacement materials
  • Recommends the purchase, lease or rental of equipment related to services in assigned area
  • Prepares proposals for new equipment
