Requirements

  • Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Master’s Degree and three years of experience in the analysis of programs, research, management, finance, personnel, policy, and/or budgeting, two years of which must have been in the public sector or government
  • Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor’s Degree and five years of experience in the analysis of programs, management, finance, personnel, policy, and/or budgeting, three years of which must have been in the public sector or government
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by A) and B)
  • Ability to use and create spreadsheets
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Ability to interpret and explain data

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes the fiscal and programmatic effects of the Suffolk County Executive’s proposed operating and capital budgets
  • Performs a thorough analysis and comparison of departmental requests for personnel, supplies, equipment and technological improvements with the amounts recommended by the Suffolk County Executive
  • Prepares specific budgetary and programmatic recommendations for consideration by the Legislature
  • Prepares resolutions and local laws
  • Researches, analyzes and prepares reports to the Legislature on subject areas: such as ferry district petitions for rate changes, organizational structures, cost efficiency and effectiveness, departmental reorganization impacts, labor agreement proposals, and changes in state funding formulas
  • Prepares fiscal impact statements and attends Legislative committee meetings
