Requirements

  • Experience undertaking internal risk reviews covering payroll tax compliance is essential.
  • Proven expertise in payroll compliance and administration, with a strong background in tax consulting.
  • Experience in leading payroll tax audits and resolving complex tax issues.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems and software, such as ADP, Workday or similar platforms.
  • In-depth understanding of U.S. payroll regulations, federal and state tax law as well as payroll compliance requirements in North America.
  • Exceptional communication and proven leadership and team management experience.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or similar certification is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the accurate and timely withholding, reporting, and filing of payroll taxes for U.S. operations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Manage all aspects of payroll tax related projects including but not limited to, wage withholding and reporting, stock option taxation and reporting, taxation of fringe benefits and equity compensation.
  • Manage tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities including regular internal audits covering payroll tax compliance and preparing detailed risk reports for senior management.
  • Manage tax year end payroll related activities and be familiar with calculating, submitting and correcting necessary submissions.
  • Establish and ensure payroll documentation, policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) relating to payroll tax and reporting are in place.
  • Be key point of contact and lead payroll tax and compliance advisor for North America.
  • Provide guidance and support for payroll tax issues in the U.S. (essential), Canada, and LATAM (desirable).
  • Support to effectively manage payroll vendors by strictly adhering to the service contract and SLAs.
  • Monitor changes in U.S. payroll tax legislation and provide guidance on their potential impact on the organization.
  • Provide periodic tax compliance training to the operation team.
  • Serve as a compliance expert on in-house payroll system build-up.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, Human resources, or related field.
  • Experience in Big Four global accounting firms is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with international payroll processes and regulations is a plus.
