Requirements
- 1–3 years of experience locating underground utilities or working with outside plant fiber optics
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Must hold a Class 5 driver’s license and provide a clean driver’s abstract
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable using multiple computer applications and digital tools
Responsibilities
- Interpret job order tickets accurately
- Read and understand blueprints and utility maps
- Plan efficient travel routes through both urban and rural locations
- Operate specialized locating equipment to identify the exact position of underground utilities
- Monitor excavation activities to ensure underground facilities are not damaged
- Create clear and professional utility sketches using Visio
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with telecommunications and wiring is an asset
- Familiarity with locate ticketing and mapping tools such as Utilocate, Multiviewer, and U2 is considered an asset
- Experience using Microsoft Visio to create locate sketches is also an asset
- A positive, customer-focused attitude with strong problem-solving skills
- Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing field conditions
