Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience as a Machine Operator in Manufacturing or transferrable experience from a similar occupation.
  • IT Skills – Competent in the use of Machine systems that record Material Movement, Losses and Quality. Must also be competent in the use of Microsoft Office; Excel and Word programmes.
  • Must be flexible within pattern of shift work to accommodate factory shutdowns, training courses etc.
  • Ability to learn all functions of the job within a reasonable amount of time.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions and to keep accurate written records.
  • Ability to work various hours and shifts (i.e., 8-hour, 10-hour, or 12-hour shifts) as needed.
  • Able to work overtime when required.

Responsibilities

  • Set up machine for production including assembling freezers and various parts of machine, assemble necessary ingredients, sanitize lines, and adjust machine to formula specifications.
  • Monitor equipment for malfunctions, solving minor problems without assistance and eliminating potential threats to production. Communicate effectively with Supervisors and maintenance personnel regarding recurring problems and needs for repair. Take part in PM’s. Follow lubrication programs and maintain lube log.
  • Oversee all operations at the workstation including responsibilities of the Wrapper Operators and Hand-packers. Work effectively with Wrapper operators and Handpackers to ensure smooth operation of line. Help work in tubs from freezer. Report any problems to Supervisors.
  • Be involved with UMS and take part in continues improvement process.
  • Technical knowledge and application of technical skills to operate machinery safely and effectively in order to meet the production plan. Conduct cleaning and lubrication as required.
  • Carry out product and process changeovers/washouts to maintain quality standards whilst minimizing the impact to the production plan.
  • Possesses an awareness of the principals of mechanism, motion and pneumatics.
  • Safety – Working knowledge of the workplace and the hazards within it. Utilize appropriate safety and environmental procedures relating to the Sourcing Unit and allocated equipment to ensure a safe working environment for the whole team. The position may require an individual to stand, stoop, move equipment; bend, reach, or lift for prolonged periods of time. PPE includes safety glasses, hearing protection and sanitary footwear.
  • Environment – Reduce costs due to waste and minimize impact to health, safety and the environment through working to eliminate waste and through the correct management of waste and hazardous materials.
  • Quality – Ensure that all aspects of Quality within the area of responsibility are in accordance with local Quality procedures to protect and promote the brand and product. Comply with all GMP/quality issues including all charting procedures. Follow established procedures for monitoring product specifications such as bar weight, product size, machine output, speed, wrap, code dates, product quality etc. Keep areas clean and dry.
  • Continuous Improvement – Knowledge and understanding of the key principles of UMS and an awareness of the tools used to identify and prioritize losses in the production area and eliminate them; role requires data collection. Monitor measures and performance after initial improvements and take further action as required.
  • Problem Solving – A Working Knowledge of how to identify, prioritize and address problems using appropriate tools and techniques that eliminate recurrence. Must demonstrate initiative.
  • Teamwork – Must be a good team player capable of working within a highly effective team; responsible, supportive and able communicator.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude through experience working on machinery or satisfactory completion of technical/shop courses.
